DMSO, which stands for dimethyl sulphoxide, is an organic solvent obtained from tree wood. In its pure state, it is almost odourless and has a slightly oily consistency. It also mixes very well with water. It crystallises at temperatures below 18°C, as its melting point is 18°C. At warmer temperatures, this process is reversed and the DMSO becomes liquid again. For easy and perfect dosing, we recommend our 1.8 ml dropper pipette.

What sets us apart

Even in the case of pharmaceutically approved products with 99.9% purity, there are major differences. DMSO is often produced in Asia and some of it is a waste/by-product of the chemical industry. These differences in quality between the pharmaceutical grades can be recognised immediately by the strong odour of the liquid.

We obtain our DMSO from a leading European manufacturer. It is absolutely odourless and is produced to the highest purity (99.9% Ph. Eur.) and quality. As DMSO reacts with plastic and is water-binding, we offer our DMSO in a light and air-protected amber glass bottle with a Teflon-coated lid.

DMSO and MSM

DMSO and the sulphur-containing natural substance MSM (methylsulphonylmethane) are closely related. Chemically, they are quite similar, but their effects are different:

• The body metabolises DMSO to dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) and dimethyl sulfide (DMS)
• Dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) corresponds to the sulfur-containing organic substance MSM, which is known as a food.
• The sulphur-containing DMS is exhaled through the lungs and excreted through the skin.
