Our ostrich meat is a special delicacy. It is low in fat and particularly popular with dogs and cats with food allergies. Similar to the hypoallergenic horse muscle meat

our ostrich meat is often used for an exclusion diet. Ostrich meat is particularly appealing because it has a low fat content and therefore fewer calories than other types of meat. It is also rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, protein and iron. In addition, the meat is particularly easy to chew due to its tender consistency, making it a tasty treat for dogs and cats of all ages.

We barfers know that feeding bones and cartilage is part of a species-appropriate diet. But in which cases is it best not to feed bones at all?

There are diseases in which you should refrain from feeding bones: these include chronic renal insufficiency in cats and their tendency to urinary stones. Bones should also not be fed to cats with pancreatic disease. Of course, it can also happen that your four-legged friend does not tolerate bones. This can happen, for example, if your four-legged friend simply does not produce enough stomach acid to digest the bones properly. If your dog keeps vomiting after eating bones or if bone faeces form, you can stop feeding bones and find an alternative source of calcium. Bone meal, for example, can be a welcome alternative.

A distinction is made between meat-and-bone meal and crystallised bone meal. What is the difference? Meat bone meal is a meal made from bones with a small proportion of meat. Crystalline bone meal consists exclusively of bones. This is also associated with the correct ratio of calcium and phosphorus. The calcium content should actually always outweigh the phosphorus content. In some flours, however, this ratio is borderline, as the phosphorus content is very similar to that of calcium. However, this does not correspond to the ratio of natural bones.
