Keralit Hufpflege Undercover
Dose
KERALIT-undercover is a well adhering, solid hoof care paste consisting of herbal spices such as turmeric, highly dispersed mineral substances and bark extracts from various tree species, e.g. oak bark. The ointment base used ensures that the active ingredients are released evenly over 6-8 weeks. Keralit undercover can be used specifically to prevent and treat horn decomposition processes in the white line, sole, corner strut and frog areas. It can also be used for horn columns and hollow walls. Keralit undercover releases decay-inhibiting active ingredients throughout the entire shoeing period, especially when moisture gets under the shoe from the outside, e.g. by washing the hooves or from the bedding. When KERALIT-undercover is used, the environment under the plate and silicone is changed over the shoeing period so that decomposition processes caused by ammonia or microorganisms can no longer form, foul-smelling putrefaction is prevented and the horn is safely stabilised. Keralit undercover does not contain iodoform or copper compounds.
Keralit undercover is simply filled into the cavities after cutting out and removing rot-free horn substance; in the case of horseshoes with plate and silicone inserts, the sole and frog can also be coated. Further shoeing work is carried out as usual.
KERALIT-undercover is also often used to prevent and treat horn decomposition in the frog area. It is particularly suitable for horses kept in open stables or paddocks, as it remains in the frog grooves for several days and adheres to the frog grooves even in wet weather. Daily treatment is therefore not necessary.
Amazingly good results are achieved with extreme and protracted wall and thrush problems when these hooves are shod with plastic plates and silicone layers using Keralit-undercover.
Without the use of Keralit-undercover, shoeing with plates and silicone filling is not appropriate for hooves with poor horn quality, as the damaging microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) multiply and decompose the horn even more in the absence of light and air. However, some horses are dependent on orthopaedic shoes for the treatment of tendon or joint diseases, even though strong horn decomposition processes are present in the wall and frog area. The problems cannot be controlled with other normal fittings.
In these special cases, Keralit undercover has proven to be ideal in combination with a closed plastic plate with silicone filling. The use of Keralit-undercover creates an environment in the small space between the hoof horn and the silicone that reliably prevents further horn decomposition, even over a period of 7-8 weeks. Due to the silicone filling, the undercover does not fall out and dirt and moisture from the bedding cannot get in. The hoof can grow back healthily. It is applied as described above. It should be noted that some horses need a familiarisation phase of a few days when switching to shoeing with a plate and silicone. A relatively soft silicone (such as "Wolke 7" from Luwex) is advantageous for sensitive horses. Please also refer to the information sheet "white line disease".
