The starch it contains is very well digested in the horse's small intestine. Oats have a high content of digestive mucilage, high amounts of unsaturated fatty acids and the essential amino acids lysine and methionine. Another advantage is the high husk content. Due to its structure, oats are easily chewed and salivated by horses. This in turn has a positive effect on digestion. However, oats have a very close calcium/phosphorus ratio. It contains little calcium but a lot of phosphorus, which needs to be corrected with a balanced mineral feed. Heat treatment during the rolling process inactivates fat-splitting enzymes in the oat grain and makes the grains stable. The disadvantages of hydrothermally treated rolled oats, such as fungal growth and fat spoilage, which occur during the normal crushing process with an oat crusher, are eliminated. Due to the improved shelf life, our rolled oats are slightly molassed.
