The diet of the wolf, the ancestor of our four-legged friends, is still dominated by meat and fish. The wolf takes in vitamins, trace elements, minerals and secondary plant substances to maintain its health by selectively eating vegetables or fruit.

The entire digestive tract (e.g. the short intestine) of our dogs is therefore designed for meat as the main component of their diet.
