    AliVet INTESTINAL DIET

    Special nutritional purpose:

    • To alleviate acute intestinal absorption disorders

The aim of the INTESTINAL diet line is to rebuild the gastrointestinal flora, stabilise the electrolyte balance and compensate for fluid loss. As a general rule, the food must not burden the digestive system, e.g. through high fat or grain content. Grain in particular, which can only be utilised by dogs to a limited extent, can disrupt digestion. The grain-free INTESTINAL diet line contains muscle meat and lean heart and stomach meat in food quality.

This provides the dog with healthy, high-quality amino acids and omega-6 fatty acids. Light, highly digestible vegetables and fruit provide natural fibre, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. They also contain the medicinal herbs camomile, aniseed and caraway, which are known to soothe the gastrointestinal tract and relieve cramps. Linseed and psyllium husks aid digestion. Yarrow is also said to improve the flow of bile, while gingko is considered a free radical scavenger. Mineral clay helps to buffer excess acids. MCT oil provides quickly available energy and probiotics (= Effective Microorganisms/EM) help to rebalance the intestinal flora.

Acute or chronic inflammation of the digestive tract and general intestinal diseases are accompanied by mild to severe symptoms in dogs. Acute inflammation can affect the stomach (gastritis), intestines (enteritis) or the entire digestive tract (gastro-enteritis). Triggered by a bacterial or viral infection, parasites or a general illness, a dog with signs of inflammation in the digestive tract shows fatigue, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. A reduced appetite, flatulence and intestinal cramps can also be classic symptoms. The chronic form of such inflammation is IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), in which the dog suffers permanently from digestive disorders and the cause is unknown. Severe diarrhoea lasting longer than two days leads to dehydration of the affected animal.

A dehydrated animal can be recognised by deeply sunken eyes, exhaustion, a very "sticky" mucous membrane in the mouth and poor skin elasticity. If dehydration sets in, diarrhoea persists or a serious gastrointestinal disease is suspected, the animal must be treated by a veterinarian. In addition to medical therapy, a change to a gastrointestinal diet is also necessary to optimally support the recovery of the digestive tract and its function or, in the case of chronic diseases, to provide long-term support.
