In chemical terms, salt is the combination of a metal and a non-metal. The best-known salt is called table salt and consists of sodium (as a metal) and chlorine (non-metal). Common salt is characterised by its salty taste and white colour. The table salt we use today is denatured by various industrial processes and in some cases artificial iodine is added. After extraction, table salt is treated and refined so that a 100 % pure product remains. The classic cattle salt lick therefore only covers the need for sodium and chlorine. The special thing about crystal salt is its origin. Due to climate change, part of the primordial sea dried up more than 200 million years ago. Subsequent earth movements brought the salt below the earth's surface and today it is stored in salt veins around 600 - 800 metres deep, protected from all modern-day environmental pollution.

While conventional rock salt is first dissolved with water and transported from the earth's interior with pumps, then evaporated in highly industrialised plants, purified, refined and provided with artificial additives such as iodate etc., crystal salt is still simply mined in one piece. This results in a completely natural product with a high nutrient diversity. At least 84 different metals and non-metals can be found in crystal rock salt in at least 200 different bond forms. This mineral composition also corresponds to the "primordial soup", the primordial sea from which all life originated. The proportion of minerals and trace elements in primordial salt is between 2.5 % and 4 %, the rest is pure table salt.

    Storage / shelf life:

When stored in normal storage conditions (18-25°C), the salt has an unlimited shelf life.
